Glossary of Terms

American Foundry Society: a professional, technical and trade association for foundries and the broader metal casting industry.

Bernoulli ring cables: ensure proper water flow and pressure through the flexible connection points necessary to tilt a furnace.

Channel furnace repairs:  the repair of a channel furnace performed by foundry service experts; this assembly forms a simple transformer in which the molten metal loops comprises the secondary component. The heat generated within the loop causes the metal to circulate into the main well of the furnace. The circulation of the molten metal effects a useful stirring action in the melt.

Electromagnetic induction furnace repair: a foundry service for repairing an electromagnetic induction furnace; the induction of an electromotive force by the motion of a conductor across a magnetic field or by a change in magnetic flux in a magnetic field.

Furnace inducer motor: is essentially a motor-driven fan, with an electrical box for power connections and metal housing

Furnace rebuilds: a foundry service that involves the experts at EMSCO completely disassembling the induction furnace, removing the coil/ shunts, and removing other related components. The furnace is evaluated, repaired, rebuilt, and reassembled with all the new insulation and parts needed to renew the furnace for the next full campaign.

Furnace rigging services: a foundry service that includes the straps, cables and heavy equipment necessary to prepare machinery for transport, i.e., the furnace.

Foundry furnace coil repairs: a foundry service which consists of repairing a foundry furnace coil.

Foundry furnace rebuilds: a foundry service which consists of rebuilding a foundry furnace that melts metal materials in a lined vessel that both holds the material to be melted and provides the energy needed to melt it.

Foundry furnace repairs: the repair of a foundry furnace; melts metal materials in a lined vessel that both holds the material to be melted and provides the energy needed to melt it.

Foundry services: Foundry services consist of the repairs, maintenance, and products offered to induction-based facilities and other industrial applications for their foundry equipment. This includes induction furnace repairs, table mount furnace repairs, steel shell furnace rebuilds, and more.

Heat rejection equipment: a product by EMSCO called HyprCool® Hybrid Process Cooling Systems that incorporates the latest in adiabatic cooling technology to optimize your foundry’s cooling systems.

Heat sensing insulation: is a proprietary epoxy insulation for induction furnace coils developed by EMSCO over the course of three years.

High voltage furnace insulation: a foundry service provided by experts that consists of holding conductors in position, separating them from one another and from surrounding structures. They form a barrier between energized parts of an electric circuit and confine the flow of current to wires or other conducting paths as desired.

Induction coil repair: a foundry service that consists of repairing an induction coil; a coil for generating intermittent high voltage from a direct current.

Induction furnace: electrical furnace in which the heat is applied by induction heating of metal.

Induction furnace maintenance: the routine maintenance of an induction furnace, often provided by foundry service experts.

Induction furnace repair / Induction furnace service: a foundry service for repairing an induction furnace; an electric furnace heated by a current which is caused to flow through the charge by electromagnetic induction.

Induction heater / How does induction heater work: a machine that consists of an electromagnet and an electronic oscillator that passes a high-frequency alternating current (AC) through the electromagnet.

Induction heating: heating of a material by inducing an electric current within it.

Induction melting equipment: equipment used in the induction melting process by foundry service experts. This is an electrical furnace in which the heat is applied by induction heating of metal. Induction furnace capacities range from less than one kilogram to one hundred tons, and are used to melt iron and steel, copper, aluminum, and precious metals.

Induction melting furnace OEM: Original Equipment Manufacturer of an induction melting furnace.

Induction melting furnace repair / Induction melting furnace service: a foundry service that consists of repairing an induction melting furnace; an electrical furnace in which the heat is applied by induction heating of metal. Induction furnace capacities range from less than one kilogram to one hundred tons, and are used to melt iron and steel, copper, aluminum, and precious metals.

Induction melting furnace repairs near me: location of an induction melting furnace repair.

Induction services: the list of services that an induction furnace offers; Steel shell furnace rebuilds, Vacuum furnace rebuilds, Table mount furnace repairs, Channel furnace repairs, Steel melting furnace repairs, Heat rejection services, Optimization of heat rejection process, Electromagnetic induction furnace repair, Overhaul of melt furnace, High voltage furnace installation, Foundry furnace repairs, Foundry furnace rebuilds, Heat sensing insulation repairs, Furnace rigging services, Melt deck design, Melt deck construction, Induction furnace power repair, Induction furnace maintenance.

Inductotherm Group: leads the industry in the development and manufacturing of advanced technologies, products and systems for the heat-driven transformation of metals and specialty materials. Learn more about Inductotherm Group.

Melt deck construction: the construction of a melt deck; where metal is melted and poured.

Melt deck design: the designing of a melt deck; where metal is melted and poured.

Metal melting furnace repair: a foundry service that consists of repairing a metal melting furnace; a cupola, electric arc furnace, or electric induction furnace that converts scrap, foundry returns, and/or other solid forms of iron and/or steel to a liquid state.

Metal melting process: smelting, process by which a metal is obtained, either as the element or as a simple compound, from its ore by heating beyond the melting point, ordinarily in the presence of oxidizing agents, such as air, or reducing agents, such as coke.

Optimize heat rejection process: the most effective process for heat rejection; the excess heat from a cooling system and starts when the cooling tower heat load is reached. Heat rejection is the total amount of heat energy which is transferred from the cool side to the warm side, plus the work carried out by the compressor. Find out more about how to optimize the heat rejection process on our blog page.

Overhaul melt furnace: the complete overhaul (a thorough examination of machinery) of a melt furnace; are used to overheat solid materials until they liquefy

Steel melting furnace repair: the service of repair for a steel melting furnace; this foundry service consists of using carbon electrodes placed in the tank to charge the material directly until it melts.

Steel shell furnace rebuilds: a foundry service that consists of rebuilding a steel shell furnace; these furnaces combine the strength of a rugged steel shell with easy accessibility making them ideal for melting a wide range of metals.

Table mount furnace repairs: a foundry service that consists of repairing a table mount furnace.

Vacuum furnace rebuilds: a foundry service that consists of rebuilding a vacuum furnace; a type of furnace in which the product in the furnace is surrounded by a vacuum during processing. The absence of air or other gases prevents oxidation, heat loss from the product through convection, and removes a source of contamination.
